Week 31 – To Meal Prep or Not to Meal Prep… (*With Results Added*)

I am doing something different this week. I had to work today and am feeling fairly exhausted so I decided to try a week of non-meal prep to get a good comparison.

I have been meal prepping for around 10 months now so it seems like a good time to try things the old way to see which is better!

Stay tuned for the results!!!! (*UPDATE* RESULTS BELOW!)

Have a great week!

On a totally unrelated note, I decided to get some ink done this week.  Cats were the first animal to really show me how strong the human-animal bond can be and I feel like it was this relationship between myself and the various cats that I have known and loved in my life that led me down the path towards veganism. I couldn’t think of a better way to honor that bond than a permanent reminder on my body!

The results of my week of non meal prepping!

  1. PROS OF NOT MEAL PREPPING
    1. I never got sick of eating anything since I was eating a different dinner each night
    2. The house smelled good when my husband came home and there is nothing better than coming home to smells of delicious cooking! (This was his major Pro!)
  2. CONS OF NOT MEAL PREPPING
    1. I found myself eating unhealthy food because it is the quickest and easiest to cook.
      1. I made vegan hot dogs with beans, vegan sloppy joes with fries, jackfruit tacos and spaghetti. All quick and easy but not the healthiest options!
    2. More frequent trips to the grocery store to pick up items for dinner which of course lead to extra purchases so it actually ended up costing more money.
    3. Had to come home from a long day of working out, working, commuting and then cook a meal.
    4. Way more dishes! With meal prepping I only have to run my dishwasher twice a week, without it we had to run it every couple of days.
    5. It was way more tempting to just grab a vegan pizza instead of having to cook and make a mess after a long day!
    6. I didn’t always have leftovers for lunch the next day which leads to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or having to go out for lunch.

So my overall findings were that YES, MEAL PREPPING IS WORTH IT!!!! It takes a little time on a Sunday but it genuinely makes your week easier.  In my experience it is healthier, cheaper and easier.  I urge everyone to try it for themselves and see what they think, you may be surprised at how much you enjoy it!
